Liquid hydrogen made in Karlsruhe

A few days ago, the centerpiece of a new research facility was installed at KIT, which will liquefy over 50 kg of hydrogen per day.

The new liquefier is the largest non-commercial plant in Germany and will support projects of the Hydrogen Integration Platform (HIP). The HIP offers testing opportunities for a wide range of applications - for example combining liquid hydrogen with superconducting technologies - as well as a liquid hydrogen supply at KIT Campus North.

If required, the liquid hydrogen can also be used by external interested parties to support the hydrogen ramp-up and technology development.

The plant was built in close technical coordination by the company Fabrum and has a long journey behind it: by ship from New Zealand via Hamburg to Karlsruhe.
