Project objective
The main objective of this project is the first demonstration of a fully superconducting generator system for wind power (HTS in the stator).
More specifically, the feasibility of synchronous generators with superconducting stator windings will be investigated and, starting from the basic design of generators, the properties of superconducting materials and the cryostat properties will be incorporated into the dimensioning methodology in order to develop tools that enable design, optimization and evaluation with regard to important properties such as losses, weight, construction volume or superconductor requirements.
The project aims at a systemic evaluation of the generator system for different designs and applications. The focus is on the design and evaluation with regard to costs and reliability. Important scientific objectives are the description of the electromagnetic behavior of the superconducting windings in stationary operation and in the event of a fault as well as the linking of this behavior with the requirements for wind power generators. The complete technical validation of the results obtained is to be carried out in a follow-up project on a ring generator demonstrator.
