IEEE honours Prof. Giovanni De Carne with the prestigious PELS Achievement Award

Prof. Giovanni De Carne, recipient of the IEEE PELS Outstanding Achievement Award for Contributions to Power Electronics and Grid Technology

Prof. Dr. Giovanni De Carne, head of the Real Time Systems for Energy Technologies (RTSET) research group at the Institute of Technical Physics (ITEP) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), was awarded the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Outstanding Achievement Award for Contributions in Power Electronics Grid Technology 2026.

With this award, the IEEE Power Electronics Society recognizes outstanding scientific and technological contributions that make power electronics a key technology for future electrical energy systems. 

Prof. De Carne receives the award for his contributions to the control, modeling, and experimental validation of power-electronics grids. His research focuses on the integration of power electronics into energy systems, solid-state transformers, real-time modeling, and power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) methods.

At ITEP, Prof. De Carne leads the RTSET research group and the Power Hardware-in-the-Loop Lab. Together with his team, he develops multi-megawatt-scale test infrastructures for energy storage and hydrogen-based energy systems and works on innovative solutions for Future Energy Systems.

The ITEP extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. De Carne on this significant international award.
