Numerical modelling of superconductors and components

We focus on numerical modeling of superconducting applications, with emphasis on the electromagnetic and thermal behavior of high-temperature superconductors (HTS). Investigated applications include power cables, electrical machines, as well as HTS bulks and stacks of HTS tapes to be used as permanent magnets.

On the experimental side, we measure AC losses in superconducting wires and coils. A recently developed technique based on fluorescence allows us to observe the onset of quench when superconductors are subjected to overcritical currents.
