AC superconducting fault current limiter

PHIL Test Setup for superconducting fault current limiters

Power-Hardware-In-The-Loop test procedures enable short-circuit tests for superconducting current limiters (SCL) in different network structures. In addition, in a PHIL test environment different circuitry of the test object itself can be simulated. Thus, the behaviour of a current limiter can be investigated with any circuit such as a parallel-connected impedance without having to design and manufacture it.

With the help of the PHIL test rig, the Institute of Technical Physics ensures the development of theoretical models for real-time simulations as well as feasibility studies on SCL in electrical energy systems.
