Guided tours are held regularly at Energylab 2.0, where important personalities from politics, the press, business and research can take a look behind the scenes of the research facility.
But the tour on October 6, 2023 was something special: The German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina had invited journalists from all over Germany to learn about ideas for transforming the energy system at KIT - including at the EnergyLab 2.0.

This so-called journalists' college takes place once a year at renowned research institutes in Germany and is intended to bring the state of research on major social debates to the public.
This year's participants included representatives from NDR, SWR, ZDF, ARD, the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, Wirtschaftswoche and the Federal Environment Agency.

This year, the focus was on the transformation of the energy system and the contributions that research is making to it. The program included renewable energy sources such as hydrogen and geothermal energy, storage and networking of new energies, costs and profits of energy policy as well as technology openness and infrastructures for the energy transition.
For this purpose, Professor Giovanni De Carne led an introductory lecture as well as a research tour in which he explained the main features of the systems studied at Energylab.
