HTS CroCo can be used as a basis element for high current conductors. The number and alignment of the CroCos is determined by the specific application. For high current DC cables, the HTS CroCos are aligned in a circle of maximum allowable circumference (determined by the application) to minimize stray fields.
Large High-field magnets require high current densities, and thus in a more compact arrangement of the HTS CroCos, e.g. in a Rutherford conductor. The required mechanical stability due to the high Lorentz forces is achieved by an encapsulation of the conductor in a stainless steel jacket.
